New award for Folding@home team

Folding@home researcher Greg Bowman was awarded the 2010 Kuhn Paradigm Shift Award from the American Chemical Society (ACS) for his talk on two paradigm shifts resulting from Folding@home: 1) the new methods that Folding@home uses to simulate protein folding, misfolding, etc, and 2) the results themselves, which suggest a significant change in protein folding theory.

Le chercheur du projet Folding@home Greg Bowman a été récompensé du  2010 Kuhn Paradigm Shift Award de l'American Chemical Society (ACS) (Société Chimique Américaine), pour son discours sur deux changements de paradigme résultant de Folding@home: 1) les nouvelles méthodes que Folding@home utilise pour simuler le repliement des protéines, repliement anormal, etc, et 2) les résultats eux-mêmes, qui suggèrent un changement significatif dans la théorie de repliement des protéines.

Je voulais juste attirer l'attention sur le titre "Nouvelle récompense...".

Et nous, qu'en est-il des résultats des projets Boinc, au moins pour le domaine Biomédical ?

Je sais que cette question revient sans cesse, et notamment de la part des nouveaux.

Malheureusement, je n'ai jamais pu lire de réponse concrète, et je me pose une autre question : sommes-nous "victimes" de la "dispersion" des projets ?

Ben faut dire que les résultats qu'on calcule sur BOINC tombe dans le domaine public et les personnes qui vont les piocher pour les utilisé se prennent pas forcément la tête pour préciser d'où ça viens...

Après je connais pas le fonctionnement de Folding faut en appeler les experts

publication of FAH results on membrane fusion and influenza

We are happy to announce the publication of some of our recent FAH scientific results:
"Atomic-Resolution Simulations Predict a Transition State for Vesicle Fusion Defined by Contact of a Few Lipid Tails"
This work represents a major step forward in this project, as we can now study the process in all-atom detail and get some better sense of the role of proteins and protein conformational change in the process.

Two new key results

We have two papers (one that just came out in PNAS and one that's about to come out in Physical Review Letters -- papers #74 and #75 on our papers list) that we're particularly excited about.  They represent some key results that we've learned by examining multiple results from Folding@home.  The resulting picture of how proteins fold is fairly different from the prevailing view, so it will be interesting to see what experiments tell us about the specific predictions made within.  We're excited to see where this goes!

Folding@home 10th anniversary

It's with great pleasure that I announce that today is Folding@home's official tenth anniversary.  It's been an amazing 10 years, especially in terms of what we've collectively been able to do, and my team and I are grateful for all the contributions by millions of people that has made this possible.  If you're curious to see what we've done so far, please check out our Results section or Diseases FAQ.  In particular, we're very excited about recent work on protein folding, which could radically reshape how people think about folding (leading to recent awards).

Recent talk of results from Folding@home

Donors are often curious to hear about recent results.  While one can read our papers, listed on our web site, those are fairly technical and intended for a biological or biophysical audience.  The talk I gave at GTC 2010 ("Folding@home:  Petaflops on the cheap today, exaflops soon?") was intended for a computational audience, so it may be more approachable than the papers, especially for those more familiar with the computational side of FAH, rather than the biological.  You can see it here.

I talk a bit about how FAH works and some recent results in protein folding (pushing past the millisecond timescale), protein misfolding disease (Alzheimer's) and viral infection.  If you're curious about how FAH works or what we've done recently, this might be of interest to you.
