Dear xxxxxx,

The SETI@home team has achieved much progress in the past year.  We have
successfully started the next phase of SETI@home by distributing data recorded
with the new seven beam data recorder.  This data is being analyzed with a new
"Multi-beam" version of SETI@home, which was released in July.  With the new
data recorder, we are looking at seven places in the sky simultaneously while
recording fourteen times as much data as before. This means we need more
volunteers like you to help us process this data. So please, tell a friend
about SETI@home.

But there is still far more to be done. Although we are pleased with the
success of last winter's funding drive, and grateful for the generosity of our
donors, we are still operating with minimal funds. These budget constraints
have forced us down to less than 3 full time employees.  With more funds we
hope to hire an additional person to maintain the servers and web site.  This
would free our existing employees to work on a method of sifting through the
results returned by your computers in order to identify candidates more
rapidly so we can re-observe them. This rapid response validation system would
also give you the ability to see the results your computers have returned in
more detail.

To keep SETI@home operating for the next year, and to provide these new
capabilities, we will need to raise approximately $476,000. Currently
SETI@home is entirely funded by donations from people like you.

L'équipe de SETI@Home a accompli pas mal de progrès ces dernières années. Nous avons débuté avec succès la phase suivante du projet en distribuant les données acquises à l'aide du nouvel enregistreur de données à sept faisceaux. Ces données sont analisées avec une nouvelle version "multi-faisceau" de l'application SETI@Home, mise en place en Juillet. Avec le nouvel enregistreur, nous observons sept régions du ciel simultanément tandis que nous enregistrons quatorze fois plus de données qu'auparavant. Cela signifie que nous avons besoin de plus de volontaires pour les analyser. Alors, s'il vous plait, parlez de SETI@Home à votre entourage.

Néanmoins, il y a toujours plus à faire. Bien que nous soyons heureux de la récolte de fonds de l'hiver dernier, et reconnaissants envers la générosité de nos donneurs, nous fonctionnons toujours avec un minimum de fonds. Ces contraintes budgétaires nous ont forcé à restreindre le personnel à moins de trois employés à plein temps. Avec un supplément d'argent, nous espérons engager une personne de plus pour assurer la maintenance des serveurs et du site Internet. Cela permettrait à nos employés déjà présents d'avoir plus de temps pour chercher une méthode de triage des résultats retournés par vos ordinateurs afin d'identifier plus rapidement les cibles candidates à une nouvelle observation. Ce système de validation à réponse rapide vous donnerait en outre la possibilité de voir plus en détail les unités que vous aurez renvoyées.

Pour assurer le fonctionnement de SETI@Home sur l'année prochaine, et pour fournir ces nouvelles améliorations, nous avons besoin de lever environ 476.000 $ de fonds (NDLR : Environ 328.000 € en ce moment). Actuellement, SETI@Home est entièrement financé par des personnes comme vous.
